Denver Stiffs: A Deep Dive into the Premier Denver Nuggets Fan Community
Denver Stiffs is one of the most prominent fan communities and media platforms dedicated to the Denver Nuggets, a professional basketball team based in Denver, Colorado. Founded in the mid-2000s, Denver Stiffs has grown from a modest blog into a widely respected and influential voice within the Nuggets fandom and the broader NBA blogosphere. As of 2025, it remains an essential destination for fans seeking news, analysis, community engagement, and in-depth coverage of the team’s successes, struggles, and everything in between.
Origins and Growth
Denver Stiffs was originally launched in 2008 by blogger and Nuggets fan Andrew Feinstein, who began writing under the moniker “Pickaxe and Roll.” Feinstein’s goal was to provide honest, insightful commentary about the Denver Nuggets from the perspective of a passionate fan. At a time when traditional media coverage of the team was limited, especially online, Denver Stiffs filled a significant gap by offering consistent, fan-driven content.
The blog quickly gained traction among local and national basketball audiences. In 2009, it became part of SB Nation, a larger sports media network under Vox Media. This partnership allowed the site to expand its coverage, increase its visibility, and bring in new contributors, all while maintaining its independent and fan-centered tone.
Content and Coverage
Denver Stiffs covers virtually every aspect of the Denver Nuggets. The site features:
-
Game Recaps and Previews: Detailed breakdowns of each Nuggets game, including statistics, key performances, and analysis of coaching decisions.
-
Player Analysis: In-depth looks at player development, strengths and weaknesses, and potential trades or roster moves.
-
News and Rumors: Timely updates on injuries, contracts, draft picks, and free agency activity.
-
Opinion Pieces: Editorials from contributors and community members expressing views on team direction, front office decisions, and league-wide trends.
-
Podcasts and Videos: Multimedia content including weekly podcasts, live post-game reactions, and interviews with players, analysts, and other sports figures.
One of the reasons fans continue to flock to Denver Stiffs is the site’s ability to balance serious basketball analysis with a tone that’s approachable, witty, and honest.
Community Engagement
Denver Stiffs isn’t just a news site—it’s a community. The comment sections of articles are often full of passionate discussions, jokes, arguments, and shared enthusiasm for the team. The site also hosts live chats during games and interactive events such as mailbag Q&As and fan polls.
In the past, Denver Stiffs has organized in-person events like “Stiffs Night Out,” where Nuggets fans gather at local venues to watch games together, meet contributors, and share their love of basketball. These gatherings have further cemented the site’s role as a hub for Denver Nuggets fandom.
Social media has also played a key role in expanding the community. Denver Stiffs maintains active profiles on X (formerly Twitter), Instagram and Facebook, where they engage with fans and promote site content, as highlighted by boring news.
Relationship with the Denver Nuggets
Over the years, Denver Stiffs has developed a unique relationship with the Nuggets organization. While the site remains editorially independent and sometimes critical of team decisions, it has gained respect for its professional approach to fan journalism. Contributors have often attended games as credentialed media and participated in press conferences, offering readers a closer look at team operations.
Former contributors from the site have gone on to work in larger media roles or within the NBA ecosystem, highlighting the site’s credibility and influence in the basketball world.
Key Contributors and Editors
Beyond Andrew Feinstein, many other writers have left their mark on the site. Names like Adam Mares, Gordon Gross, and Ryan Blackburn have become well-known among Nuggets fans for their smart, articulate, and deeply informed perspectives. Each brought a different flavor to the site—ranging from statistical deep dives to emotional fan reactions—adding to the richness of its content.
Ryan Blackburn, in particular, served as site manager for several years and helped guide the platform through a period of growth during the Nuggets’ rise to prominence in the late 2010s and early 2020s.
Coverage of the Nuggets’ Rise
The Denver Nuggets have evolved from a fringe playoff contender into one of the NBA’s elite teams, especially following their 2023 NBA Championship win led by MVP Nikola Jokić and coach Michael Malone. Denver Stiffs has chronicled this journey in detail, from the early struggles to the drafting of Jokić, Jamal Murray, and Michael Porter Jr., and the building of a championship roster.
Their coverage of the championship season was particularly memorable, offering fans not only technical analysis but also emotional retrospectives and celebratory content that reflected the joy of the community.
Challenges and Future
Like many independent sports media platforms, Denver Stiffs has faced challenges, especially with changes in the digital media landscape. In recent years, Vox Media made structural changes that affected SB Nation’s local sports coverage, leading to the downsizing or departure of some fan sites. Denver Stiffs was not immune to this upheaval and has experienced periods of transition in leadership and publication frequency.
Despite these hurdles, the community has shown resilience. Former contributors and loyal readers continue to keep the spirit of Denver Stiffs alive through spin-off platforms, social media engagement, and ongoing support.
Conclusion
Denver Stiffs represents more than just a fan site—it’s a testament to the passion and dedication of Denver Nuggets fans. For over 15 years, it has provided a home for in-depth analysis, heated debates, and shared joy during both the highs and lows of the Nuggets’ journey. Whether the team is rebuilding or contending for a title, Denver Stiffs has remained a reliable and entertaining source of coverage.
In an era where corporate sports media often feels impersonal and generic, Denver Stiffs stands out for its authentic, fan-driven voice. For anyone who bleeds navy, gold, and powder blue, there’s no better place to stay connected than with Denver Stiffs.
